Enjoy a Southeast-inspired seafood dinner catered by Fireweed Dinners as well as a chance to hear stories and updates from community leaders and others who are helping create a more equitable, resilient, sustainable future for Southeast Alaska and beyond.

Rising Tides Guest Speakers:
Mark Titus
Mark Titus is an award-winning writer, director, producer, and founder of Seattle-based August Island Pictures.
Since 2004, he has written and directed brand films for clients including Amazon, Microsoft, The Nature Conservancy, T-Mobile, and the United Nations Development Programme.
Titus has also directed and produced short films since 2003. In 2014, he directed The Breach, an award-winning feature documentary about wild salmon. His latest feature documentary, The Wild, was released in 2020.
In 2021, Titus launched the impact brand Eva’s Wild and the podcast Save What You Love. The Turn, the final film in his salmon trilogy, is in post-production and expected to premiere within the next year.
Paul Olson
Paul Olson has been a commercial fisherman in Southeast Alaska for more than 50 years. A former longline deckhand, he is now a commercial salmon troller who loves catching big fish. He has fished continuously since1977.
When he’s not trolling, Paul works part-time in the ALFA office and runs a small consulting business focused on fishery resources and conservation of salmon habitat. He is the lead researcher and author of the 2020, 2022, 2024, and 2026 SeaBank Natural Capital Reports.
Joe Nelson
Joe Nelson grew up commercial fishing in Yakutat, Alaska. He is a member of the Teikweidi (Brown Bear) clan and child of the Kwaashkikwaan (Humpback Salmon) clan. He has a bachelor’s degree in Political Science and a master’s degree in American Indian Studies from UCLA, as well as a Juris Doctorate from Loyola Law School.
Joe is a longtime board member and former chairman of Sealaska Corporation. He serves on most of Sealaska’s subsidiary and affiliate boards, including Woocheen, Sealaska Heritage Institute, and Spruce Root Inc. Joe is also a Co-Chair at the Alaska Federation of Natives, the President of Alaska Legal Services, Chair of Outer Coast, and President of Southeast Village Fisheries Collective.
George Anderson
George Anderson is the President of the Chignik Intertribal Coalition (CIC). He began his commercial fishing career in 1983. From 1998 to 2002, he was President of the Chignik Lagoon Tribal Council. In 2012, he joined the Chignik Lagoon Native Corporation Board, supporting its SBA 8(a) government contracting program. Since 2005, Mr. Anderson has managed local hire, quality assurance, and logistics projects in the Chignik Region, and served as Environmental Director for the Ivanof Bay Tribe until retiring in May 2026.
His climate change research and project management experience includes leading the 2018 Ivanof Bay shoreline and landslide drone assessment(QAPP), managing logistics for CIC's 2018–2019 winter food security project, overseeing local-hire in-season subsistence harvest surveys for the Chignik River Fisheries Resource Monitoring Project (2022–2025), and serving as Principal Investigator for NSF AC3TION (2023–2027). His leadership and experience support in-season fishery and population monitoring. Outside of commercial and subsistence work, he assists his community with administration, IT, logistics, and transport.
